Man banned from nine stores in Scarborough after causing ‘misery for retailers’

A Scarborough man has been banned from nine shops in Scarborough over his persistent offending.

Graham Coggins, 47, of North Marine Road, pleaded guilty to a theft from B&M in the town.

Magistrates gave him a 12 month conditional discharge, ordered him to pay compensation of £18.49 and imposed a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order.

Coggins was ordered that he must no be in possession of an open container of alcohol in a public place other than on a licenced premise in the area of Scarborough as defined by the Public Space Protection Order map.

Coggins must also not enter the following stores:

  • One Stop Store, Huntiss Row, Scarborough
  • One Stop Store Eastborough, Scarborough
  • Sainsbury Local, Ramshill Road, Scarborough
  • Sainsbury Falsgrave Road, Scarborough
  • Tesco Store, Westwood, Scarborough
  • B&M Store, Balmoral Centre, Scarborough
  • Marks and Spencer, Scarborough
  • Any Aldi Store within Scarborough
  • Morrisons Daily, Westwood Road, Scarborough

Coggins was also ordered not to enter Alma Square or any properties on Alma Square.

Coggins must also leave any retail premises immediately when asked to do so by a member of staff, police officer or police community support officer.

Scarborough’s Neighbourhood Policing Team PCSO Sasha Twyford said, “Coggins’ persistent offending has caused misery for retailers across Scarborough. I am thankful that the court placed this order upon him.”
