Ten people who were on a hike in the Dales had to be rescued after becoming trapped in a shooting hut
Police asked the Swaledale Mountain Rescue team to go to their aid on Preston Moor.
With limited information available they went to the location and found the doors to the hut bolted shut from the outside.
A spokesperson said: “Ten relieved walkers were then released from their temporary incarceration.
“It seems someone hadn’t realised the hut was occupied or they were playing a prank. No worse for wear, the walkers were able to continue and finish their hike.”
Later there was another update from the SMR team: “It appears that our walkers were accidentally locked in by a third party. When they saw our post last night they immediately contacted us to explain what happened.
“They have also subsequently spoken to the walkers themselves to explain their mistake and offer their apologies. Everyone has had good laugh about the incident and it will remain a good story to tell over a pint.”
