Firefighters were called to a handbag fire in York today (Monday).
A crew was called at 12.08pm to what the fire service would only describe as a “public assembly building” in the city.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from York responded to a fire that had started inside a handbag in a public assembly building.
“On arrival the fire had already been extinguished by a member of the public using a water extinguisher.
“The cause of the fire was believed to be a lithium battery.”
