“The victim believes he was targeted because of his ethnicity.

It is the latest racially-aggravated crime in York. A week ago today, liquid was thrown from a car at a victim sitting at a bus stop on Poppleton Road.

Police are also investigating an attack on a student at the University of York, abuse directed at a taxi driver outside a city centre restaurant and a number of instances of racist graffiti in parks and at a restaurant.

Residents told a recent City of York Council meeting that racial slurs have been levelled at children amid an increase in bigotry.
