A rescue operation swung into action after a dog fell down a village well.
Firefighters were called to Kirkby Malzeard near Ripon at 6.47pm.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Masham and Ripon responded to a report of a dog that had fallen 20ft down a well.

“On arrival of the crews the owner had been lowered down the well and rescued the dog but was unable to get back out.
“Crews used working at height equipment to lower a harness to the person enabling the crew to pull them out.”
