Exploring Jorvine Wine Bar: Fizz, Fun and Fine Wine

Our Visit to Jorvine Wine Bar, Nunnery Lane

In December we had a exciting vist with the show, we spent an afternoon exploring the then newly opened Jorvine Wine Bar on Nunnery Lane.  It' so easy to find, on the corner of Bishopthorpe Road and is just a short walk from the city centre. The space already feels well established and welcoming, with people browsing for a new wine, a gift or meeting friends, there are intimiate spaces for relaxed catch-ups over a glass of wine.

Broadcasting on YorkMix Radio, we visited to explore the venue and speek to the team behind it. As part of the visit, we also gave you the opportunity to experience a wine tasting at half the usual price, available via yorkmix.com, offering a great introduction to Jorvine’s approach to wine and hospitality.

If you have a voucher get yourself booked in, don't miss out!

Jorvine are independent wine merchants with a clear focus on creating welcoming, unpretentious spaces where people can eat, drink and explore wine at their own pace. Their carefully curated selection of over 500 wines from across the world reflects a passion for quality, diversity and discovery, ensuring there’s something to suit every taste and occasion.

All wines are personally sampled by the Jorvine team, who are WSET trained, allowing them to offer knowledgeable, confident recommendations without making the experience feel overwhelming. Whether you’re choosing a familiar favourite or stepping outside your comfort zone, guidance is always on hand.

Founded in 2021 by Kris and Jess, Jorvine Fulford quickly established itself as a local favourite, it's known for its cheese and charcuterie boards, seasonal small plates, relaxed Sunday lunches and extensive wine by the Glass list. Building on that success, Jorvine has expanded to Nunnery Lane, opening the doors on 18 October 2025. The new location offers a shop with 'Wine on Tap', just like you see beer on tap, you can stop off for a drink with friends, but also select a glass while browsing.

So many wines... Honesly, it’s quite a sight, at first it’s hard to know where to start... Thankfully, the team are incredibly knowledgeable, genuinely happy to help and eager to share their expertise. Trust me, if you’re unsure, don’t be shy about asking questions – the experience is all the better for it.

Looking back, Jorvine Wine on Nunnery Lane feels like a natural fit for York’s independent food and drink scene. Our visit highlighted not just an impressive wine selection, but a thoughtful, welcoming approach and team making wine accessible and enjoyable for all.

Discover new favourites, stock up or simply meeting friends for a glass, Jorvine gets our vote, please do show your support for 2026!
