Empty York restaurant could soon host live music

Live music could be coming to a former York restaurant under new plans.

Acts could be hosted at the former Mojo’s Chinese Cuisine restaurant and karaoke bar in Lawrence Street under a licence application lodged with City of York Council.

Ze He’s application would see the building’s current licence altered to allow it to put on live music acts from 9am to 2am daily and change its layout.

Mojo’s Chinese Cuisine is listed as permanently closed on Google.

Planning permission was granted to install five soundproof karaoke booths in the building in 2020.

It came as part of the conversion of the building from a retail warehouse to an asian restaurant in that year.

The premises traded as Little Asia until around 2023. Prior to 2020, the building was home to the Homecrafts DIY store.

People can have their say on the licensing application until Wednesday, 6 May.
