Drivers are being warned to expect delays as work to upgrade a major junction begins today (Monday).
City of York Council is investing £165,000 to improve the junction of Fossbank, Foss Island Road, Layerthorpe and Peasholme Green.
It is the junction said to be in the worst condition of any maintained by the council.
Works location
Work will run from today and is planned to last for five weeks till 29 March.
It includes the replacement of traffic controllers, signal heads, detection cameras, poles and cabling.
Lights are also set to be converted to ELV and LED, with existing ducting work set to be reused and new traffic signal power sockets installed.
A council report stated the works would keep equipment at the junction operating and reduce the risk of failure.
A City of York Council spokesperson said: “From Monday we’ll be undertaking work to update and improve the traffic signals at Foss Bank Junction with Layerthorpe.
“We are working to minimise disruption – but delays are expected while works are undertaken, so please plan ahead if travelling through the area.”
