Updated: A64 reopens after crash between two cars and a lorry near York

A serious crash closed the A64 west of York on Wednesday night.

Emergency services went to the scene of the collision between York and Tadcaster.

It involved two cars and a lorry and happened shortly after 7pm. The AA reported that a vehicle crashed into a bridge.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Tadcaster and Acomb attended a three vehicle road traffic collision involving two cars and one HGV.

“One occupant self-extricated with assistance from fire crew and paramedics and all other occupants were already out on arrival.

“Crews made the scene safe and left the casualty in the care of paramedics.”

The road has now reopened.

Earlier, at 8.17pm, North Yorkshire Police posted: “The eastbound carriageway is closed at the A659 junction (Headley Bar) and is expected to remain closed for some time.

“Drivers planning to travel in this area are asked to avoid the A64 eastbound and use alternative routes. Please follow local traffic updates for the latest information.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding while crews work at the scene.”
