Updated: Crash on main York road cleared

A crash partially blocked a main York road tonight (Thursday).

It was on the A64, close to the Thompsons Fish and Chip Shop and Common Lane, north east of York.

At least two vehicles were involved in the collision, reportedly a Kia and a Skoda. It happened at around 6.40pm.

Crash location

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from York assisted police at the scene of a three-vehicle road traffic collision.

“All occupants were out of their vehicles but police required assistance with an electric vehicle. Crews isolated the battery and monitored the battery temperature until safe.”

Debris covered the carriageway. Witnesses report only minor injuries, but we haven’t had that confirmed.

The collision caused long tailbacks in both directions. One YorkMix reader said traffic was at a standstill after the crash.

But the road is now clear and traffic is running normally again.
