Updated: Casualty airlifted to hospital after car transporter crash

One person has been airlifted to hospital after a serious crash in York this morning (Monday).

It happened on Malton Road close to the Hopgrove roundabout shortly after 8am.

A car transporter carrying a number of vans has left the road and collided with trees.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance went to the scene. It landed close to the Toby Carvery Hopgrove pub.

A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to a road traffic collision involving one vehicle on Malton Road in York at 08.11 this morning.

“A number of our resources were dispatched to the scene, and one patient was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary.”

A stretch of Malton Road between Hopgrove Lane South and the roundabout remains closed.

Police are still at the scene.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “A section of the A1036 Malton Road is closed between the Monks Cross Roundabout (near to the Park and Ride) and the roundabout leading to the A1237 (near to Hopgrove) due to a road traffic collision.

“Diversions are being put in place and we request that motorists please avoid travelling on this route.”
