Crackdown on speeding drivers in North Yorkshire village

Following concerns raised by the residents of Spofforth at a recent community drop-in session, the local police carried out speed checks and parking enforcement today (Sunday 1 Feb) .

Two officers, with hand-held speed detection devices, checked over 1,000 vehicles going through the village, however only 9 vehicles were over the limit.

Officers say the registered keepers will receive notification in the next few days.

A third officer was out enforcing parking violations.

7 Traffic Offence Reports have been issued, for parking in a danger position at a junction or the mini-roundabout or unnecessary obstruction of the pavement.

Police say they will visit Spofforth again in the next couple of weeks and would like to remind all residents to ensure they are parking in a safe place away from junctions and to stay within the speed limit of the village.
