Get ready for a nativity like no other – as the Wilberfoss Amateur Theatre Society (WATS) have a Christmas treat in store in their production of The Flint Street Nativity this November.
Join them as Miss Horrocks’ class of seven-year-olds (played by adults) prepares to perform their nativity play at Flint Street Junior School for their proud mams and dads.
However, squabbles soon arise when Gabriel wants to play Mary, the Star grumbles he’s not a proper star like they have at NASA and Herod won’t stop waving to his mam and dad. And then the stick insect escapes … This is a funny and warm-hearted play, featuring traditional Christmas carols as you’ve never heard them before!
The Flint Street Nativity is at the Wilberfoss Community Centre on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November 2025.

Written by Tim Firth, it was televised in 1999 starring a whole host of iconic British talent such as Frank Skinner, Neil Morrisey, Jane Horrocks, Stephen Tompkinson, Mark Addy, and Ralf Little.
There will be three performances in total, two 6pm evening shows and a 1pm matinee on Sunday.
This will be the theatre group’s first performance of a licensed play. Wilberfoss Amateur Theatre Society was founded in October 2022 by Sally Langton, and the group has successfully staged two pantomimes and three musical showcases to sold-out audiences of all ages.
Director Sally Langton, said “After starting our wonderful community theatre group three years ago, we have worked hard to bring a mix of musical goodness to the village of Wilberfoss and surrounding areas and now we get to take on a whole new venture, with our first ever licensed play!
“If there’s anything that comes a close second to my love of theatre, it’s my love for Christmas, so this production is the perfect marriage between both. Is it a chaotic storyline? Yes! But will it bring you joy, laughter and an immeasurable amount of Christmas fun? Absolutely!
“The cast and creative team are working tirelessly to bring such enthusiastic characters and Tim Firth’s hilarious script to glorious life. You don’t want to miss out on WATS’s latest festive offering; this is one nativity not to miss!”

Rehearsals for the comedy Christmas show are well underway, with the cast enjoying getting to bring out their inner seven-year-old.
Cast member Lynne Stubbings said, “Being part of a WATS production is a very special experience. Flint Street Nativity is a fun look behind the scenes of an infant school’s production of a traditional nativity, including typical children’s comments and actions, both comedic and poignant.”
Fellow cast member Sue Langan said, “Watching the film Flint Street Nativity has been a family tradition for years in our house. Having the chance to play one of my favourite characters in it has been a dream come true. It’s just so funny.”
Tickets can be booked online here. Standard tickets are £8, concessions are £5, and the recommended viewing age is 12+.
WATS is a non-profit community theatre group that is completely volunteer-led, and welcomes everyone of all ages and abilities, with the aim to bring the joy of theatre to the community and make it accessible for everyone.
