Building at Monks Cross evacuated due to fire

Firefighters were called to a building at Monks Cross in York this morning (Saturday).

At 11.45am, York and Acomb crews responded to a small fire inside a microwave which caused smoke logging inside a building.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “All persons had evacuated prior to fire service arrival.

“Crews wearing breathing apparatus for comfort entered the building and removed the microwave to open air.

“A thermal inspection was carried out to confirm no fire spread. A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the building of smoke.

“Advice was given to the responsible person and the cause of the fire was believed accidental.”
