Police say a body was found in the River Wharfe today (Wednesday).
The discovery, near Bolton Abbey, was made by member of the public.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Although formal identification is yet to take place, officers believe the body is of missing Essex man Anthony Smith.
“Anthony’s family have been informed of today’s news and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“We are not currently treating the death as suspicious.”
Anthony was last seen at around 4.30am on Friday (19 July), at the Red Lion Hotel in Burnsall.
