Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed at a commercial poultry farm near Pickering yesterday (March 3)
It’s thought that around 22,000 birds are affected.
A 3km protection zone and 10km surveillance zone has been declared. All poultry birds on the premises will be humanely culled.
These measures apply until the declaration is withdrawn or amended by another declaration.
In all disease control zones, people must follow the biosecurity rules for bird flu which will help to stop it spreading.
It is also required to keep a record of anyone who transports poultry and not to organise or attend bird gatherings, such as fairs, markets, shows or sales.
The control zone takes in Wrelton, Sinnington and Cropton to the west and north of Pickering.
The surveillance zone takes in Kirkby Moorside , Kirby Misperton, Thornton-le-Dale and Cropton Forest.
