Ate O'clock is Restaurant of the Week!

Our Visit to Ate O’Clock, High Ousegate

This week’s YorkMix Restaurant of the Week is Ate O’Clock, the much-loved independent restaurant on High Ousegate in the heart of York.

Family-run and proud of its roots, Ate O’Clock has truly taken the city by storm. It is three-time winner of Restaurant of the Year at the YorkMix Choice Awards, and one visit is all it takes to see why.

From the moment you arrive, the experience feels special... A twinkly tunnel of fairy lights leads you inside, where you’ll find three beautifully styled dining rooms, each with its own personality. Look closely and you’ll spot the many clocks dotted around the restaurant, they all pointing to 8 o’clock, a playful nod to the name and a reminder to slow down and enjoy the moment.

The décor is smart, sassy and full of character, creating a real sense of occasion while still feeling relaxed and welcoming. You genuinely feel like part of the journey of a local business that’s grown with the city, it is a great place to be!

The menu is thoughtfully inclusive, with great options for vegans, vegetarians, gluten-free diners and those choosing low or no alcohol. The set menu offers excellent value, with two courses for just £25, making it perfect for midweek treats or special celebrations. On my visit, I tried the spring rolls, hot honey wings, beetroot and pear risotto, followed by the panna cotta. Every dish arrived piping hot, beautifully presented and packed with flavour. It’s has already become one of my favourite places to eat in York,  I even celebrated my birthday here recently.

Ate O’Clock also offers a Blue Light discount and is currently running a promotion on NO and LOW alcohol drinks at their sister bar, Social8. They regularly get involved in city events and promotions and are a fantastic supporter of the local community.

Do follow on the soicals, both Ate O'clock and Social8, to keep uptodate with promotions and events.

Great food, warm hospitality and a real York success story - Ate O’Clock certainly comes with a YorkMix recomendation.
