‘All ages, genders, and mystical creatures welcome!’ Witches Coven to gather in York

An unforgettable evening filled with dark magic and ancient wonders is promised next month as witches gather in the centre of York.

The second ever Witches Coven event is being staged by the Hocus Pocus Tiny Hotel on Patrick Pool.

This year’s mystical happenings take place on the evening of Friday, 14 June.

Last year’s inaugural Witches Coven saw around 100 witches of all ages and genders gather at the hotel.

And the hotel owners think the event will just grow and grow.

It begins outside the Hocus Pocus hotel with blessings, as burning sage fills the air and guests sip on “complimentary elixirs”.

There’s live music and performances by Tatwood Puppets, before immersive tours led by York’s own Mad Alice from The Bloody Tour of York take guests around the five uniquely themed rooms of Hocus Pocus Tiny Hotel.

From having your future told to being transported to Victorian times, every corner of the hotel holds secrets waiting to be discovered.

Prizes are then handed out to the best-dressed witches before the coven heads out to visit some of York’s most haunting locations.

“It’s completely free! All ages, genders, and mystical creatures are welcome to join in,” says co-owner of Hocus Pocus Tiny Hotel and event organiser Camelia Andrei.

“Last year was the first event, and the overwhelming response spurred us to go all out for the Witches Coven 2024.

“It’s a celebration of the diversity of our community and the power of coming together to embrace our shared love of all things weird and wonderful.”

Everyone who goes along will get discounts and offers for events, attractions, shops, bars, and restaurants across York for the entire weekend, ensuring that the magic continues long after the night has ended.

Vincent Roberts, co-owner and event organiser, said: “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the York local business community for their enthusiastic involvement and generous support, making this experience possible for everyone.

“To show our support for this amazing community, a portion of the event’s profits will provide Christmas hampers for York’s homeless this year. Any donations to this cause during the event will also be warmly welcomed.”
