A Snowy Start to the Living North Christmas Fair

By Victoria Charles, YorkMix

If you’ve been following, you’ll know that festive traditions mean a lot to me and a trip to the Living North Christmas Fair has definitely become one of them.

Stepping inside from the cold, i felt like i was welcomed by a warm, festive hug, so much to look at... every year it feels like stepping straight into the pages of the magazine.

Everywhere you turned were beautiful, carefully crafted pieces that you simply don’t find on the high street, over 250 incredible local makers, bakers and creators bringing their talent to York Racecourse.

Once again, it didn’t disappoint i couldn't wait get going, microphone in hand... to descover new exhibits, visit old friends and make new ones.

Neve (below) wasn’t just busy welcoming guests to the Christmas fair,  she went live, on the Quizzical, broadcast from the event! With a little help from the arriving shoppers, she managed very impressive score of 16 pionts,  A brilliant effort!

One of my favourite parts of any fair is discovering those unexpected gems… and this year I fell in love with a teacup covered in tiny pandas. Totally irresistible.

Stall - Fat Finger

Just across the hall, I found a display of handcrafted rocking horses, stunning pieces made right here in North Yorkshire, each one with its own name, story and personality. You can order a bespoke design or, if you fancy rolling up your sleeves, you can even buy a build-your-own rocking horse kit. There’s something really special about creating a new heirloom that could be loved for generations.

Stall - The Rocking Horse Shop

The food courts seem to grow every year, from fudge to brownies, Christmas puddings to scotch eggs, sausage rolls and more… it was an indulgent trail of festive flavours. Every few steps there was something new to try, i did you proud and tried the lot.

Among the stalls were beautifully made hats, scarves and gloves, perfect for freshening up the winter wardrobe, the craftsmanship was impeccable and there were genuinely price points to suit every pocket, from stocking fillers to special gifts.

The fair is across three floors and two buildings, with something for everyone!

The Live Kitchen was back in full force, Chefs from across the region showing off festive dishes, clever tricks and seasonal recipes making it impossible to leave without a new idea to try at home.

There are too many brilliant suppliers to list individually, but every stallholder I spoke to had a story, a passion and a craft they were proud to share. It’s exactly what makes the Living North Christmas Fair such a joy, the real people, real talent and real inspiration.

If you’re looking for a festive day out this weekend, I can recommend.

If you can’t make it, don’t worry, Living North will be back in spring with another fantastic fair.

See you there next year… or maybe in the food court.
