York road hit by burst water main for the fourth time in less than three years

A York road has been hit by a burst water main for the fourth time in two and a half years.

A main ruptured again on the aptly named Water Lane today (Wednesday).

The problem was reported to Yorkshire Water at 8.30am this morning, and left households in the area suffering from low water pressure.

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “We are aware of burst water main on Water Lane in York, which has resulted in low water pressure for properties in the area. 

“Our team is currently on site carrying out the repair. To allow this to be done safely, traffic management in place. 

“We understand how inconvenient having low water pressure or no water can be, and apologise to our affected customers.

“We thank them for their patience whilst our teams work as quickly as possible to repair the pipe and restore normal supply.”

Shortly before 4pm, the company said the problem had been resolved. “We’re pleased to confirm that repairs are now complete and water supplies to the area have been restored.

“Your water may be cloudy or discoloured – you can clear this by running your tap for a few minutes.”

This is the latest in a series of similar incidents.

A water main burst creating a sinkhole and flooding that nearly reached into people’s homes at the end of June last year.

The hole appeared on Water Lane close to its junction with Clifton. Water Lane was flooded, and the water may have encroached on adjoining streets.

A huge clear up operation followed.
