It is described as ‘dazzling’ and ‘sumptuous’ – and looking at the video and pictures, you can’ t really disagree.
Bathurst House, at 86 Micklegate, is a Grade II* listed property with a total of eight bedrooms, roof terrace, a walled garden and its own section of Roman wall.

The house was built in the early 1700s on the corner of Barker Lane as a townhouse for Charles Bathurst, High Sheriff of Yorkshire.
Originally two storeys and a basement, a third storey was added in the 1820s. The North-Eastern Railway owned the house in 1872-1879 and converted it into offices.
Bathurst House became a hotel in 1911. From 1921 for 40 years it was the York YWCA, then it was bought by the University of York in 1963, when it was converted into apartments.

It was later leased by an accountancy firm. In 2017 the house was sold for £1.11 million to Horses York Limited, later renamed Appaloosa House Limited, a retailer of specialised goods,.
Appaloosa House Ltd, run by Diane, Kimberley and Michael O’Neill, is in the process of being dissolved.
The property details from Blenkin & Co state: “Its hugely versatile accommodation extends to some 7,000 sq ft and includes a two-storey annexe which remains united with the main house.

“Listed as Grade II, the property displays a dazzling array of period features including an historic Roman wall in the basement.
“A seven-year programme of renovation, entirely sympathetic to the property’s age and stature, is now complete and the house is once again a high-status private home in the heart of the city.”
The main house includes five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a first floor sitting room and a cinema room.
An annexe offers another three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
