Two homes being converted from famous York hotel go on sale for £5.9m

Work has begun on converting a York hotel into two luxury homes – and they’ve now gone on sale for a total price of £5.9m.

The Oakgate Group has started turning the former Mount Royale Hotel into two villas.

Daresbury and Beech Villa will be found at 117 and 119 The Mount after the transformation of the Grade II listed building is completed.

Planning permission for the change was granted in 2024.

The project represents a return of the building to residential use for the first time in decades, reflecting its original history as a pair of grand villas constructed in 1834 and occupied as private family homes for almost half a century.

The two villas will sit alongside two striking contemporary homes, now known as 1 and 2 The Mount Gardens, which have already been sold.

Richard France at Oakgate Group said: “This is a building of real historic importance to York, and our ambition is to restore it with the care it deserves while creating two exceptional homes fit for modern family living.

“Daresbury and Beech Villa represent a genuinely rare opportunity to own a prestigious home in one of York’s most desirable locations.”

The two villas are now on sale via Croft Residential and Carter Jonas.

David Beattie at Carter Jonas said: “The Mount is one of the most significant residential opportunities York has seen in a generation.

“The location is simply unmatched; just moments from Micklegate Bar, the Knavesmire and the Minster, with everything the city has to offer on the doorstep.”

Toby Cockcroft at Croft Residential added: “The strong early demand already seen at The Mount reflects the appeal of the scheme, and Daresbury and Beech Villa offer buyers a unique opportunity to secure a distinctive family home in the heart of the city.”

Beech Villa is now on sale for £3,250,000. It has seven bedrooms and six bathrooms, and 125ft enclosed gardens.

Daresbury Villa costs £2,650,000. It has five bedrooms and four bathrooms with “superb gardens to the front and rear, private parking and garaging”.
