Roxanne Pallett will not return to the Minster FM airwaves.

Following her hugely controversial appearance on Celebrity Big Brother, the York station has this afternoon announced that the former Emmerdale star will no longer co-host the Breakfast Show.

In a statement issued at 4pm on Tuesday (September 4), the Dunnington-based company said:

  • As a result of discussions today with her representatives, Minster FM can confirm that Roxanne Pallett has stepped down from her position at the station with immediate effect to take some time out and reflect on recent events.

Roxanne will not be returning to Minster FM.

Roxanne left Celebrity Big Brother at the weekend after claiming Corrie actor Ryan Thomas had hurt her by punching her.

The incident caused a huge furore, with many taking to social media to say Ryan was only play fighting, and to condemn her reaction.

Many of her former soap colleagues also chipped in to the escalating row, with few ready to support her.

‘We hope she gets the help she needs’

No longer a team: Minster FM breakfast hosts Ben Fry and Roxanne Pallett
Speaking on Minster FM, station MD Bridget Davies thanked listeners and customers for their patience over the last few days.

“It’s been very difficult not to be able to tell them what’s been going on in here at the station.

“Roxanne was in the Big Brother house and was uncontactable until today.

“Because we’ve been unable to speak to her until today we’ve been unable to issue a statement.”

Bridget went on:

  • However, following a meeting this morning, we can confirm that Roxanne will not be returning to Minster FM.

And as she said to Emma last night on the interview on Channel 5, she was going to go and take some time out to reflect and to address some issues.

So we hope that goes well for her, and that she gets the help and support that she needs.

‘Most hated girl in Britain’

Roxanne returned for a belated CBB exit interview on Monday, and told host Emma Willis she had got the situation “massively wrong”, saying

  • I’m the most hated girl in Britain right now, it’s a lot to deal with.

It’s the title I feel everyone has given me at the moment. All I can do is own it, accept it and apologise.

Roxy said she watched the clip of herself and Thomas as soon as she left the house and immediately realised it was a “completely different scenario to how it felt at the time”.

The actress said she had thought Thomas did not like her and it was “almost like I convinced myself it was done with malice and it wasn’t, and I know it wasn’t now”.

When Willis suggested Pallett could have “ruined” Thomas, she replied: “I feel devastated, it cripples me with embarrassment and shame that I could have put somebody in that position.”

On the Jeremy Vine TV show she said: “Only I can go away now and figure out why I became that sensitive that I manufactured a different version in my mind.

“The fact that I used terminology like woman beater and words like assault and abuse, I can’t apologise enough.”

Born in Carlisle on Boxing Day 1982, Roxanne was raised by her mother and grandmother in Currock.

She has a degree in media studies from Liverpool John Moores University. After studying part-time at Manchester School of Screen Acting she made her name playing Jo Sugden in Emmerdale.

Roxanne won acclaim for her portrayal of Jo as a victim of domestic violence.

In 2008, Roxanne became the public face of the Early Warning Signs campaign for UK domestic violence charity Refuge.

Before Celebrity Big Brother, she appeared in other reality TV shows, including ITV’s singing show Soapstar Superstar and Dancing On Ice.

In February it was announced that Roxanne was to give up acting and become the co-presenter of the Minster FM Breakfast Show with Ben Fry.

She suffered a nightmare crash while crashing in a stock car race as part of her work on the show in July.

Roxanne lost consciousness for a short while and had to be airlifted to hospital from the track near Filey. Fortunately she wasn’t seriously hurt.
