Residents across York and surrounding areas are invited to discover the fun and friendly world of croquet at a special Community Open Day hosted by York Croquet Club on Sunday 24 May.
Taking place between 10am and 4pm at the club’s lawns on Scarcroft Road, the free event welcomes people of all ages and abilities to come along and try several different forms of croquet in a relaxed and informal setting.
Visitors will be able to have a go at a variety of games, including association croquet and golf croquet, with club members on hand throughout the day to explain the rules, offer guidance and introduce newcomers to the sport.
Croquet is a sociable outdoor game that combines gentle exercise, strategy and skill, and the club hopes the event will encourage more local people to give it a try.
No previous experience or specialist equipment is needed, and families, individuals and groups are all welcome to attend. Flat-soled shoes are recommended.
The Community Day is designed to show that croquet is an accessible and enjoyable activity for all generations, whether people are looking for a new hobby, social activity or competitive sport.
