Police have launched a hate crime investigation after a disabled person was abused in Harrogate.
It happened at about 7.30pm on Thursday 2 July, between Walworth Avenue and a ginnel that runs towards Knaresborough Road.
The victim, who walks with a crutch due to a disability, was approached by a woman who verbally abused him, specifically targeting this disability.

It caused the victim significant distress.
The woman is described as
- in her late 40s or early 50s
- with blonde hair
- wearing sunglasses
- a short-sleeve white top with sand-colour shorts
- and carrying a shopping bag.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We’re particularly appealing for information for anyone who witnessed anything, or may have CCTV or video doorbell coverage in the area.
“If you have any information that could assist our investigation, please contact us online in the first instance.”
