Cable theft forces Saturday night train cancellations

All train services out of King’s Cross to York have been cancelled tonight after signals were knocked out by a cable theft.

Both Northbound and Southbound lines are blocked between Grantham and Newark North Gate

The last two departures from London to York were cancelled at the last minute; earlier in the evening some trains, including one to Selby, were sent on a long diversion via Lincoln.

Passengers hoping to get home tonight have been told they can use their tickets tomorrow or on Monday.

They were also told to head to London St Pancras and travel back to York via Sheffield and Leeds. Many will have to complete their trip by taxi and LNER says the railway will pick up the bill.

Network Rail says the cause of this signal failure is theft of signalling cables and staff are on site fixing the issue.
