A 17-year-old youth is due at York Magistrates’ Court today (December 3) after being detained by a police dog near the scene of a burglary in York.

Vigilant neighbours called North Yorkshire Police at around 3.40am in the early hours of Sunday 2 December 2012 after seeing two men enter a property in Coniston Drive, York.

Police attended the scene and Police Dog Ozzy quickly tracked one of the suspects to a nearby cycle track where he detained the suspect with his teeth.

The youth was arrested and received medical treatment to a minor injury before being taken into police custody where he was interviewed about the incident. He was subsequently charged with burglary on Sunday afternoon and was due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The second suspect escaped on a bicycle and police enquiries are ongoing to trace him. Anyone with any information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for York CID.
