Commuters on their way in to York on Wednesday (June 8) were shocked to see the body of a young deer on the side of the road.
The deer was on the grass verge next to the pavement and cycle path on Malton Road, between Muncastergate and the mini roundabout that leads to Heworth Green.
The animal had apparently been hit by a vehicle.
It was on the side of the road next to Heworth Stray.
Although it is unusual for deer to be seen in suburban York, there is a lot of open land on Monk Stray which includes Heworth Stray and the golf course opposite.
Drivers who hit deer do not have a duty to report the accident to police.
The authorities have been informed about the animal and were arranging to remove it.
