Are you sweet on Smarties? Do you prefer a Polo, or are you a Fruit Gums fanatic?
It’s time to let the world know, via the poll hosted by York’s Chocolate Story. The King’s Square attraction is on a quest to find the nation’s favourite sweet made in York.
Votes are already coming in and you can vote too at their online survey page.
And on Saturday, August 10, from 11am-3pm, chocolate story staff will take to King’s Square, encouraging people to back their favourite sweet brand and learn more about the city’s great confectionery making heritage.
Children will be able to create their own face masks, try some York sweets, become part of a famous Rowntree Cocoa advert and all importantly – tip the balance in the sweetie poll.
There will also be a chance to enter a “design your own chocolate sundae” competition – the winner of which will be launched in the attraction’s café as a Sundae Special.
The current front runner in the sweetie poll is the ever popular Fruit Pastilles, closely followed by Smarties with Tooty Frooties in third.
The poll, which marks both Fruit Gums’ 120th anniversary and Tooty Frooties’ 50th anniversary, will be running until 1st September 1, with the winner announced soon after.
“Many great sweetie brands have come out of the city of York including Polos, Smarties, Fruit Pastilles, Tooty Footies and Fruit Gums,” said Stephen Spencer, chocolate story general manager.
“This summer we’re celebrating these brands and encouraging people to take a trip down memory lane, learn more about them and vote for their favourite at York’s Chocolate Story. The fun day this Saturday will be a great chance for people to come along and get involved this summer holiday!”
