York Racecourse will welcome a royal visitor on the first day of the new season – and he’ll be able to watch a race with his name on it.
Prince Andrew has agreed to visit the track on Wednesday (May 13), the opening day of the Dante Festival.
The Duke will officially open the new Weighing Room, the key part of the wider development of the northern end of the racecourse.
Soon afterwards comes the richest race of the afternoon – the Duke Of York Clipper Logistics Stakes. So it is fitting that the Prince Andrew will present the trophy to the winner.
Racegoers will be able to see that presentation just after the 3.15pm contest.
It is a great start to the new season for York Racecourse, which announced in March that legendary singer Sir Tom Jones is to headline its Music Showcase meeting in summer.
