If you’re a fan of foodie telly, head over to Channel 4 tonight (Tuesday, 1 October).
And don’t switch off after The Great British Bake-Off.
Because York stars in the following show. Called Snackmasters, it is broadcast at 9.15pm on Channel 4, and is a new series fronted by renowned maitre d’ Fred Sirieix.
In it Fred challenges top chefs to work out the secret recipes of some of Britain’s favourite snacks – and then recreate them.
The first one sees two chefs attempt to make their very own KitKat.
Intriguing revelations
In tonight’s show Michelin-starred chef Daniel Clifford and his rival London cook Vivek Singh tour the Nestlé Rowntree factory in York before setting to their task.
The comedian Jayde Adams is also involved, and is very impressed by the machinery that’s producing four million KitKats a year – shouting “Wow! It’s like a motorway!”
As the Radio Times puts it:
-
There are intriguing revelations, including the fact that the main ingredient in the sweet goo that is poured between the wafers is in fact… crushed up Kit Kats (as fans of Inside the Factory may already know).
At the end of the challenge York’s Nestlé employees are asked to judge which chef has created four-finger perfection.
Now that’s worth a watch with a cup of tea and some sort of chocolate-based snack. But which one…?
