A paramedic has been hit in the face by a patient they were treating.

York police were called to Peasholme Green just before 3am in the early hours of Friday (January 6) to reports that a member of ambulance staff had been punched in the face by a patient they were attending to.

The police officer described the incident as shocking:

The suspect, a man in his 20s from Sherburn in Elmet, was arrested at the time.

He was taken to hospital prior to police custody due to concerns about his condition, believed to have been caused by the effects of alcohol.
