The shortlist of the York Literature Festival / YorkMix Poetry Competition has been decided.

A total of 984 poems, submitted by 427 different poets from throughout the British Isles, has now been whittled down by our judge, Carole Bromley, to just 56 poems.

Winners, Highly Commended and Commended poets will be informed of their success by Wednesday (March 2).

The results will be revealed at a prize-giving event at The Black Swan, Peasholme Green, York, on March 19.

Here are the titles of the poems selected for the 2016 shortlist. The letter Y in brackets after some titles denotes that the entry is also eligible for the York Prize.
