With its narrow cobbled streets and historic architecture, York is the perfect setting for the scariest nights of the year. We’ve collected a ghoulish guide to all the spooky shenanigans happening at Halloween in York 2019.

The city is already full of frights with ghost tours and buses, haunted pubs and a recently opened Ghost shop on the Shambles that’s one of a kind.

York’s most scariest attraction York Dungeon is The Home of Halloween this year, where you can expect even more thrills and chills and lots of scares! York Dungeon is also making a trip from land to sea this October with a Halloween Cruise on the Ouse featuring ghost stories and spooky sightings that’s suitable for families.


Hallowscream is back! Awarded Best Scream Park in the UK in 2018 this night of horrifying entertainment is not for the faint hearted. Or try its younger sibling Hallowtween, perfect for younger children and those with a more sensitive disposition but just as fun.

Looking for something more gentle this Halloween? How about the The Great York Ghost Search. Hidden around York will be 26 Ghost Lamps and Mini Ghosts to find, and there’s some terrifyingly good prizes up for grabs! Bonus – if you find a Mini Ghost it’s yours to keep!

This October, The York Dungeon will become the Home of Halloween, offering unique experiences across the year’s spookiest season. Amazing live actors and 360 degree sets will fully immerse guests in the darkest parts of old York’s history. Along the way, guests will meet such notorious residents as Guy Fawkes and highwayman Dick Turpin. This Halloween, the attraction is ramping up the scares in their most recent show, The Curse of the Witch; an intense experience featuring infamous local witch Isabella Billington. The show has been dubbed “the scariest show in Dungeon history”. Throughout the month, the award-winning attraction opens its doors to an unsuspecting public for a frightfully fun season of macabre scenes from the past. Peasants, it’s no secret that we love Halloween here at The York Dungeon. That's why we transform into THE HOME OF HALLOWEEN.
