Detectives in York are appealing for witnesses following an assault in the city in the early hours of today.
At around 2am, a 46-year-old man was assaulted outside the Society Lounge Bar in Rougier Street.
The man fell to the ground as a result of the assault and sustained a serious head injury. He was taken to York District Hospital by ambulance where he currently remains. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault to contact them if they have not already done so.
Officers believe there were a number of people around at the time and are appealing for them to get in touch without delay.
Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for York CID.

A 26-year-old man from West Yorkshire has been arrested in connection with the assault and is currently in police custody.
