An amazing story and incredible music – Billie Holiday was a legend. And that legend lives on in a show at the Grand Opera House this week.
Nina Kristofferson’s The Billie Holiday Story takes you through the highs and lows of the singer’s career.
And you can be there, courtesy of YorkMix and the Grand Opera House.
We have three pairs of tickets to give away to Thursday’s show (April 17), with two copies of the CD of the show for runners up.
The incredible story of the 1950s superstar is punctuated with some of her greatest hits like God Bless The Child, Good Morning Heartache, Strange Fruit, Don’t Explain and All Of Me.
Billie Holiday’s uniquely soulful singing voice and her ability to boldly turn any material that she confronted into her own music made her a superstar of her time.
Today, Holiday is remembered for her masterpieces, creativity and vivacity, as many of Holiday’s songs are as well known today as they were decades ago.
Holiday’s poignant voice is still considered to be one of the greatest jazz voices of all time.
Nina has been described by The Times as “hypnotizing, captivating, electrifying” and “magnificient” by The Stage.
The musical play brings a brilliant cocktail of songs and stories from Billie Holiday’s life stirring the haunting memories that plagued her.
