There’s fun for all ages at today’s Family Raceday at Knavesmire.
But can YorkMix’s tipster Dick Turpin follow his four-winner tipping success on the final day of the Ebor meeting with more success?
Read on for his selections…
Punters are well advised to take a watching brief – or very small stakes only – for the first two large-field races, writes tipster Turpin.
Eight or ten entries have serious chances in both events and it will pay to wait until the feature race, Garrowby Stakes (2.55), before taking a plunge.
Limato’s recent victory in listed company at Newmarket appears to be the outstanding form and Henry Candy’s gelding is likely to have the beating of his five opponents, but at somewhat tight odds. Kimberella (Paul Hanagan up), could be the main rival if the Richard Fahey-trained eight-year-old can recapture early-season form.
Hanagan has several live chances throughout the afternoon, notably Ventura Ocean in the EBF Stallions Novice Stakes (3.25). A good showing in last month’s Acomb Stakes suggests he has enough in the tank, even with a 6lb weight rise, to defeat Sapa Inca, Woven and Joe Le Beau.
Another Hanagan ride appeals in the five-furlong sprint at 4.30; Metallic Black won a 6f Pontefract event on debut. Though the colt failed to follow up at Haydock last month, conditions today, and the likelihood of a truer pace throughout, give Richard Fahey’s youngster a top chance.
