This footage shows the terrifying scene after a school bus drove into floodwater.
The video is from an in-car camera as North Yorkshire Police arrived at the scene of in Tollerton Lane between Newton-on-Ouse and Tollerton on January 5.
It was released after the bus driver, Graham Stanley Jones, of Linton Woods Lane, Linton-on-Ouse, was jailed for a year for dangerous driving.
York Crown Court heard how Jones drive past two ‘road closed’ signs before the bus, carrying 23 children to Easingwold School, was stranded in thigh-deep water.
All those on the bus were rescued by the emergency services.
A police spokeswoman said:
“The outcome of this case reflects the gravity of the situation, the potential consequences, and how serious the court took this incident.
“It should send a clear warning to drivers not to ignore road closure signs that are put in place to protect people, and to heed the dangers of driving through flood water.”
