Two weeks after a fire ravaged part of a York restaurant, its staff have been faced with another cleaning up operation.
The Star Inn The City lost its kitchen in the November 9 fire, and has had to cancel many Christmas bookings.
But it partially reopened on Friday serving drinks and snacks – with a cosy tipi adding a seasonal bonus.
Yet this morning staff arrived at the Museum Street restaurant to find that it had been broken into and vandalised.
Back up and running
A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page said:

We have worked terribly hard to get back up and running for drinks after a devastating fire in the roof void above our kitchen just over two weeks ago.
Overnight our beautiful teapee has been broken into and reckless damage caused to equipment and furnishings… we’d love to meet these people!
Needless to say we aren’t feeling particularly festive right now although we promise we’ll get our act together in time for opening at 12 noon.
Known as a teapee because it is brought to the Star in association with Bettys and Taylors, the Yorkshire tea people, it serves hot and cold drinks and has a central fire.
The news provoked anger from many in York.
One commenter spoke for many when she wrote: “Disgusting but keep doing what your great at despite the scumbags out to cause mindless destruction.”
And others sent messages of support like this one: “I’m so sorry – your hard work and effort doesn’t deserve this. Keep going – York loves you!”
A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said:

Its cosy bar and river room are beautiful spots to relax and socialise over a drink or three.
And the teapee is a brilliant addition, again with great views.
There you can enjoy a ‘Turbo Tea’ with Slingsby Rhubarb Gin – or just a classic cup of Yorkshire Tea.
Everywhere is very festive with a huge tree and lots of twinkly lights.
Get along!
