Gillygate is to remain closed all day while repairs continue to a burst pipe which flooded the street.
Yorkshire Water engineers have been working through the night to repair the water main.
As we reported last night, the pipe burst and dislodged paving stones near Wackers Fish and Chip Shop, sending water cascading down the road.
It left some residents without water, and others suffering very low water pressure.
Earlier, Yorkshire Water expressed hope that the supplies would be reconnected this morning.
But at lunchtime, some properties were having to access their water from a tanker supplied by the company.
Shortly before 2pm Yorkshire Water said the repair was complete and the water is back on.
Meanwhile, the First York bus company has been told that Gillygate will remain closed for the rest of the day “and will not open until the early hours of tomorrow morning”.
Buses are being diverted while the work continues.
The burst water main is close to the flats which were hit by a fire last month.
Police are investigating the cause of the blaze, which firefighters believe was started deliberately.
Before that Gillygate was hit by a sink hole in August 2016, and was shut in July 2019 for sewer repairs.
