Escrick Park estate, near York, hosts Saddle Up For Sue this weekend, to raise money for the Sue Ryder-run Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope, West Yorkshire.
Charlie Forbes Adam, who runs the family-owned estate, said: “It is a pleasure to be able to share Escrick Park, and its wonderful equestrian facilities, with the general public.”
Georgina Abbott, Yorkshire fundraiser at Sue Ryder said: “We are thrilled the event has attracted so much interest from keen horse riders in Yorkshire and some people will be travelling over 50 miles with their horses to take part and join in the fun.
“Sue Ryder provides care for people with incurable illnesses and all funds raised from the event will help us to continue our vital work in the local community.
“We are hoping to have around 80 participants at the event and raise over £2,500, which could cover the cost of a nurse for two weeks at a Sue Ryder Care Centre,” added Ms Abbott.
There are basically two routes through the stunning parkland and woodland for the event at Escrick Park. The Beginner Route is a 6.5-mile loop with optional cross country fences and the Novice Route is a 14-mile hacking route but with optional cross country fences too.
The fees, which go directly to Sue Ryder, are: Adults – £25; Under 18s – £10, but must be accompanied by an adult (over 18); and Team entry – £100 for five adults. On the day registration is available subject to capacity at £30 per entrant.
Among those who have already signed-up is Linda Gash and her horse Sixpence.
Linda said: “I work as a staff nurse and am therefore aware of the amazing care Sue Ryder provides for people with incurable illnesses. I wanted to combine my love of horse riding with raising some funds for a fantastic charity.”
