A river of pink flowed across Knavesmire today as thousands of women took part in the York Race For Life.
More than 3,000 took part in the 5km and 10km races and organisers hope the event will bring in £260,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Following a warm-up, inevitably featuring a mass outbreak of Gangnam Style-dancing, the women walked, jogged and ran around the course, cheered on by friends and family.
Many of the participants wore dedications to loved ones. Some dressed in bright pink wigs or bunny ears, others walked their dogs round the course. Veterans said the weather was perfect – warm, but not as stiflingly hot as last year.
Everyone who finished the course received a medal, a bottle of water and, strangely for an event celebrating health and fitness, a piece of cake.
Congratulations to all who took part.
