Issued by North Yorkshire Police
North Yorkshire Police can now confirm that the body that was recovered from the River Ouse at Acaster Malbis, near York, on Sunday 13 January 2013, was that of missing person Lisette Dugmore.
As previously stated, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
Lisette was aged 36 when she was reported missing to North Yorkshire Police in July 2008. She was last seen alive on the evening of 6 July in the Bootham area of York.
Extensive and high-profile police enquiries have been ongoing since the time of Lisette’s disappearance in the effort to locate her and establish the circumstances of her disappearance.
Her body was recovered from the River Ouse at Acaster Malbis after being discovered by walkers.
Detective Inspector Adrian Gathercole, of York CID, led the missing person investigation throughout.
He said: “This is very sad news which, understandably, has left Lisette’s family deeply upset.
“The thoughts of all those involved in the search for Lisette are with her family and friends at this difficult time.
“This is not the outcome anybody wanted, but we hope that Lisette’s loved ones will take some comfort from being able to lay her to rest and remember happier times.”
Speaking on behalf of the family, Lisette’s sister, Dion Smith, said: “The last four and a half years have been unbearable. Not knowing what had happened to Lisette has had a profound effect on us all.
“Even now, it is very difficult to believe that we won’t be able to see or speak to Lisette again. We never gave up hope that she would be found safe and well.
“We are utterly heartbroken.”
The family would like to thank all the individuals and organisations that have provided dedicated support during the search for Lisette, as well as the continued kindness and concern from friends and neighbours in York and beyond.
Funeral arrangements for Lisette will be put in place in due course.
In the meantime, the family have requested that the media respects their privacy as they try to come to terms with this terrible news.
