Trains cancelled between York and Edinburgh due to storm damage

This is some of the damage caused to overhead wires on the railway between York and Edinburgh tonight.
It means all trains are unable to run between the two cities. And what LNER calls “a very limited bus service” is operating between York, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
Passengers are advised not to travel tonight. The impact on tomorrow’s services is not yet known.

The York Beer Festival is underway, with the trade sessions taking place under the huge marquis on Knavesmire.
Public sessions start at 6pm, and it runs till Saturday. Cheers!

First pix: Bollywood movie films in York
A Bollywood action movie is filming scenes in York today.
Commando 3 is an action thriller starring Vidyut Jammwal and Adah Sharma. It was filming in London before the movie relocated to shoot scenes in York.

This morning the stars and crew were setting up on King’s Staith to shoot a scene involving a high-speed motorbike ride.
The production is shooting in York till Friday evening. A number of roads will be closed to facilitate the action, including Chapter House Street, College Street, King’s Staith, North Street, Ogleforth Shambles and Wellington Row.
Weather warning for York as Storm Ali moves in
If you think it’s breezy now, just you wait…
Storm Ali is sweeping in and the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for very strong winds which affects York.
The wanring applies to Thursday evening and overnight into Friday morning.
This means there’s “a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs or through falling trees and branches”.
And there’s a small chance of transport being disrupted, with roads closed and rail, air and ferry services affected. Power cuts are also possible.

Corrosive liquid poured over York car
A car has been vandalised by someone pouring corrosive liquid poured on it.
Between Monday and Tuesday (September 17 and 28), the red car was parked on Vyner Street near York Hospital.
As well as the damage caused by the corrosive liquid, a large scratch was scored onto the bonnet.
Officers are asking for anyone with information to get in touch via 101, quoting reference number 12180174696.
