Ghosts of Shambles, put on your dancing shoes. The medieval home has been transformed into a Seventies disco and is ready to party!
For the next four nights (October 28-31) the old buildings are decorated with ten thousand sparks of light from a series of glitter balls suspended high above the cobbles.
Called Share The Revolution (by Freshwest – Marcus Beck & Simon Macro) this installation is likely to be a favourite of visitors to this year’s Illuminating York.
You and your shadow
The tenth festival of light also has its unsettling side. Shadowing (Jonathan Chomko & Matthew Rosier) sees people walk through a pool of light – only to see their shadows follow seconds later. A perfectly ghostly encounter in this spookiest of weeks.
In the passageway alongside the Mansion House, Flown (Esther Rolinson) is a cloud of light created from gently moving interlocking shapes.
While Illuminati Botanica (presented by Trophic Cascade with works by Jony Easterby, Ulf Pederson & Mark Anderson) brings new meaning to the colours of nature.
Neon birds take flight, while psychedelically bright flowers spin before your eyes…
