The current York City team is one of the best seen at Bootham Crescent in years.

So to inspire Gary Mills’ men as they take on Mansfield in the second leg of the play-off tie, we’ve a collection of six of the best City performances of yesteryear.

York City 2 Manchester City 1 – December 1998


York City stun Manchester City in A Division Two fixture in front of a crowd of 7,527 with a late winning goal by Andrew Dawson – his first touch of the ball for the Minstermen. Manchester City would go on to win promotion via the play-offs. York were relegated on the final day of the season.

York City 3 Everton 2 – September 1996

Manchester United 0, York City 3 – September 1995


Ah yes, I remember it well! City annihilate the mighty Manchester United, with York fans ending the match with a chorus of “Are you Scarborough in disguise?”
