Who minds the rain, when the brollies are as eye-catching as this?
Thirty-six vibrant floral umbrellas have returned to Coppergate Walk as part of its ‘Instagram Summer’, a series of events and photo opportunities that aims to make the Coppergate Centre one of the city’s social media hotspots.
The floral umbrellas tie in with another new attraction, coming to the Coppergate Centre later this month.
Students from Askham Bryan College are assembling their gold medal-winning In Sight of the Minster show garden at the heart of St Mary’s Square for locals to enjoy as part of this year’s Bloom! Festival.
Spring butterflies can also be spotted all around the centre, adding to the colour and floral theme.
New designs on their way
More brolly designs are coming, says centre manager Pippa Unwin said:

We’re looking forward to seeing hundreds of images appearing across social media in the coming months.
Last year, we were named by travel website scenicwander.com as one of the best umbrella streets in the world, so we’ll be adding even more colour with a different display of umbrellas each month from now until September – weather permitting.
Those sharing photos of the Coppergate displays on social media are requested to use the hashtag #brollywalk, with the best images being shared by the shopping centre’s team. Many have already done so:

Great to see #BrollyWalk back up at @coppergateyork. They’re going to be changing the theme each month, so I guess you’re going to have to come back and visit 🤷🏼♂️ pic.twitter.com/v3yOfOyQSA
