Delicious food from the heart of York, delivered to your door by a friendly city taxi driver – that’s the new service ready to launch.

Spark:York will be relaunching their food delivery service Spark:Go tomorrow (Friday 8 May), in partnership with taxi firm Fleetways.

It will enable people to order takeaways from the many food traders at Spark via the app Deliveroo.

Delicious meals on offer will include Japanese-style Asian cuisine from Shori, or vegan street food from Döner Summer.

Spark:York general manager Kendall Craven-Evans said: “It is a pleasure to be relaunching our delivery scheme this Friday evening.

“We made the extremely hard decision to cease business activities on March 22nd in the interests of public health and the safety of our staff and traders, but we now feel comfortable that we can trial a return to trading in a safe and controlled manner.

“Initially the scheme will be takeaway only, but we will look to develop this week on week as we see fit.”

Fleetways will deliver

Hungry Yorkies will be able to order hot food and alcohol from eight independent traders via Deliveroo from 5pm to 9pm on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 May.

And Fleetways will deliver, boosting trade for the firm.

Like many industries, taxi companies have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, with trade significantly lower than average.

Proceeds from deliveries will go the firm, and they will service all addresses within the York outer ring road.

Rob Cummings, chairman of Fleetways Taxis said: “Fleetways Taxis are delighted to be working with the businesses at Spark.

“We look to support all of our community at this difficult time. We offer to pick up pre-ordered click and collect goods from local outlets across the city, and bring them to your door.”

Deliveroo business development manager Ines Amaral said: “We are extremely excited to be working together with a number of local businesses to be able to deliver food and bring happiness to people during this unprecedented time.”
