Sky TV’s Soccer AM came to York – and promptly fell in love with the place.
Frankie Fryer, the motormouth reporter on the Saturday morning football fanzine, brought his Away Days feature to the city. He took in the railway station and York Minster – built primarily to give the football team their nickname, the Minstermen.
He also spotted footballer turned pundit Robbie Savage among the Vikings at the Jorvik centre, sang along in Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate, created soft centres at York’s Chocolate Story and admired Shambles, inexplicably failing to mention that it’s home to YorkMix.
Frank finally made it to Bootham Crescent, aka the Arena Of Audacity. There he was joined in the York City club shop by goalkeeper Michael Ingham, holding a club gnome in each glove, striker Josh Carson and defender Luke O’Neill.
Taking to the terraces, he summed up his feelings for our city with a beautiful lament: “I wanna live here – I wanna live here… York’s such a nice place – I wanna live here”.
