It’s the last day of the last race meeting of the season.

Which also means it’s your last chance to win… so who should you back? Over to our tipster, Mr Dick Turpin…

What a season! In 2018, York has continued to maintain its dominance at the top of racing’s hierarchy, writes tipster Turpin.

Record crowds, record prize money, and a record number of Group One and Pattern races.

One of Turpin’s highlights was watching Sea Of Class demolish a highly-rated field to conquer the Yorkshire Oaks with a display that suggested the filly could grab the Arc in October.

She came heartbreakingly close to that victory last week. Easily the best horse in the field, she was beaten by a near-impossible draw in the Longchamp event. We can only hope we’ll see her in action again at Knavesmire next season.

Stradivarius’s brace of wins in the Yorkshire Cup and Lonsdale Cup were early-season highlights too. And who can forget Roaring Lion’s impressive performance in taking the £600,000 first prize in the Juddmonte International. What a summer it has been.

Today’s season-closing meeting features a wide-open Coral Sprint Trophy Handicap (3.15), and an equally intriguing and highly competitive Rockingham Stakes (2.40).

The selection in the sprint (3.15) is Al Qahwa, whose showing in the Ayr Silver Cup is justification for David O’Meara’s five year-old to be the likely favourite.

A course-and-distance winner last season, Tommy Taylor represents very good each-way value. Strong claims can be made, too, for Perfect Pasture, Flying Pursuit, and last year’s winner, Teruntum Star.

But if you’re looking for longshot value e.w., it might be worth a small investment on Kimberella, who will have come on for his plucky seventh in the Ayr Gold Cup last month.

In the Rockingham (2.40), everything looks right for Leyburn magician Karl Burke’s Constant. This progressive youngster has everything going for him, after an impressive showing at Hamilton last time out, beaten only by East, a subsequent Group Three winner. The testing ground will suit too.

Until next season, folks!

It’s your last chance to visit York Races this year.

The 14 races during the October Finale on Friday and Saturday carry record prize money of almost £500,000. But can we help you win a bob or two?

Over to legendary YorkMix tipster, Dick Turpin…

The penultimate day of the York season offers a superb battle in the feature race, the Racebets Handicap (3.50), writes tipster Turpin.

John Gosden, fresh from an amazing success with Enable in the Arc, brings the classy Frankel colt, Surya to take on the challenge from Arc runner-up trainer, William Haggas, who pitches the promising Canford Heights into the fray.

Top-rated Proschema comes into the reckoning too after good showings in the Melrose and the St Leger, but that top-weight penalty might just be a shade too much to carry to victory.

Surya looks the part, though, with three consecutive victories since June – and the promise of even more improvement to come. He’s your highwayman tipster’s pick of the day.

The booking of wonder jockey Silvestre De Souza for a modest novice auction stakes (5.00) must be noted. He’s aboard the Mukhadran gelding, Mardle, who looked like he needed course experience on his Newbury debut fourth last month.

He will come on for that experience, but it’s still a tough ask for him to overcome Sam Cooke, whose Lingfield second saw the colt ten lengths clear of the rest of a field containing some potentially useful types. He should have just enough in what promises to be an open race.

Meanwhile, those of a spiritual nature will surely notice the three angels taking part in the Novice Stakes at 3.15. They fill my Win, Place and Longshot selection slots – and a modest combination Tricast might just yield a heavenly outcome.
